Get your Geek on x 2!

Greetings and salutations geeks & nerds alike! Neil Egan here – now co-contributor (or co-conspirator?) to the spectacular GeekyThingz blog. Can I get a “WooT!”

Creator of GeekyThingz, and one of my best buds, Dwayne aka Dopegroove, has been kind enough to welcome me to this small but growing corner of the geek universe.  So from now, we’ll both be adding our particular insightful commentary on thingz like cool gadgets, gaming, anime, that crazy tech world and generally anything geek related.

So to start off this exciting day, how about some morbid news (yeah?). Hal 9000’s evil red eye will be glowing a little less bright today with the news that Arthur C. Clarke has passed away. The author of one of the most frightening prophecies of technology gone amok, 2001: a Space Odyssey, died in his home at the age of 90.

I also found out that on March 4th, there was sad news for all the roleplaying fans out there. Gary Gygax, the father of Dungeons & Dragons died at age 69. Two big influential figures in the geek world pass on to meet that big Dungeon Master in the sky. So, in their tribute, I offer the classic Flash video based on the recording of the Dead Ale Wives interpretation of a typical Friday night for D&D players. Here’s CyberMoon Studios’ 8-bit rendition:

Mr Clarke and Mr. Gygax, I raise my Mountain Dew to you as I cast magic missle into the darkness…one last time.
